BASIC DETAILS

  • Enota Park is the only new construction BeltLine park in our area. It was slated to be one of the first BeltLine parks built, but hasn’t in part because the City of Atlanta cannot acquire the property for various reasons including absentee property owners.
  • The particular parcels impacted by this ordinance have no houses. It is vacant land adjacent to the Atlanta BeltLine corridor near Langhorn and I-20.
  • The seven ordinances up for vote on Monday, August 19, will allow the city to acquire seven parcels by condemnation. The above map shows the parcels in burgundy.
  • Enota Park is part of the Subarea 1 Atlanta BeltLine Master Plan created with the input of many district residents and community stakeholders. It is also part of the Westview Master Plan developed by community residents and approved by the city.
  • The City of Atlanta and the Atlanta BeltLine have been working for a number of years to secure the land needed to build Enota Park.

BeltLine Southwest Connector Trail

BeltLine Southwest Connector Trail Construction

On January 12, 2013 the Atlanta BeltLine and PATH Foundation held the groundbreaking for the new “Southwest Connector Trail.” Since then construction for the trail has been well under way. The results are already looking very promising with a lovely meandering path through the forest along a creek, nicely designed bridges, and a granite seating area.

The trail is not in Westview, but is conveniently located a few blocks down Westwood Avenue in the Westwood Terrace neighborhood (just west of Westview) and will be a great amenity for Westview residents. Once complete the trail will connect the Westwood Terrace neighborhood with the Lionel Hampton Trail.

Development Committee Walk-Through

Development Committee Walk-Through

In 2010 the Westview Community Organization sponsored a planning session that resulted in the Westview Master Plan, which was later adopted by City Council and signed into law by Mayor Reed in 2011.

The Westview Community Organization’s Development Committee organized a 2-hour walk-through to show the areas that would be affected based on the plan. A follow-up walk will take place to touch on the areas that were not covered by the first walk.

Implementing the Atlanta BeltLine

Date: Thursday, February 7, 3012
Time: 6:30pm to 8:00pm
Location: Atlanta Metropolitan College, Dennard Center, 1630 Metropolitan Parkway SW, Atlanta, GA 30310

Details: Join Atlanta City Councilmembers Joyce Sheperd, Carla Smith and Cleta Winslow for a community meeting:

What are the next steps for the Atlanta BeltLine?

The Atlanta BeltLine is a massive, comprehensive project that touches more than 45 neighborhoods. While a great deal of work has been accomplished in the past six years, there is much more to do. We must answer important questions about how we build the rest of the project – and we can only do that with your help.

We need your help to help inform the priorities of the project moving forward. The upcoming meeting is your opportunity to hear about how we are shaping this plan, and what criteria we will use to prioritize projects. Most importantly, it is an opportunity to provide your input on how we move projects forward using these criteria.

Ralph David Abernathy Tree Plantings

Commercial Streetscape Improvements

In 2009 the Westview Community Organization collaborated with Trees Atlanta to have Princeton Elms planted along the western side of Ralph David Abernathy Blvd near the intersections of East Ontario Ave and Inman St. The trees have made a tremendous impact on the streetscape along this commercial strip.

Since then the community has aimed to continue this streetscape beautification, such as is outlined in the Westview Master Plan, and thanks to the continued efforts of both the WCO and Trees Atlanta additional trees have been planted. More Princeton Elm’s have been added on the western side of Ralph David Abernathy Blvd, between East and West Ontario Ave; Parrotia’s (Persian Ironwood) have been planted on the eastern side of Ralph David Abernathy Blvd; and Ginkgo’s have been planted along Inman St at the intersection of Ralph David Abernathy Blvd.

To view more photos of the tree plantings please visit our Westview Facebook page.

Westview Master Plan Adopted

Westview Master PlanThe Westview Community Organization is proud to announce that the Westview Master Plan has been officially adopted by the City of Atlanta!

Following the June 13, 2011 Public Hearing, the Atlanta City Council unanimously voted to adopt the Ordinance on June 20, 2011: “An Ordinance by Community Development/Human Resources Committee to adopt the Westview Neighborhood Master Plan; to amend the City of Atlanta 2008 Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) so as to incorporate the Plan into the CDP; and for other purposes.”

Mayor Kasim Reed gave his stamp of approval on June 29, 2011, making the Westview Master Plan an official document and part of the City’s Comprehensive Development Plan.

The officially adopted plan will allow the neighborhood strive towards its development goals and provide a project guideline to the City when funding becomes available for such projects.
