A pop-up party and holiday market was held in the Westview Village. The festivities followed the annual Westview Community Organization’s holiday luncheon, providing neighbors another opportunity to gather in the evening over potluck food, libations, and browsing artwork, décor, and more, while listening to local DJ Earl The Third.

On Saturday, December 17, 2016, the Westview Community Organization held its annual holiday potluck at Fire Station 17. Neighbors brought dishes to share with neighbors and enjoy each others company. Some of the fire fighters were able to join in for the festivities during the meal, and as is tradition, the leftover food was left for the fire fighters to enjoy at a later time.

The Westview Neighborhood Commercial (NC) District, a project no less than eight years in the making, has become a reality when the Atlanta City Council voted to adopt the legislation at their December 5, 2016 meeting.
Westview neighbors first put the Master Plan and Neighborhood Commercial District projects on the agenda of the August 2008 Development Committee agenda. The next year and a half was spent researching other Atlanta master plans and neighborhood commercial districts, and finding grants to fund the required resident notifications about a planning workshop. The Neighborhood Foundation made it possible to hold the commercial district workshop in May 2010, which was led by Village Habitat Design and assisted by Development Committee members.
The outcome of the workshop was the Westview Master Plan, which was adopted by Atlanta City Council in 2001. The Neighborhood Commercial District was outlined in the master plan, and therefore ultimately helped the Westview Community Organization, Westview Commercial District Association, and City of Atlanta’s Office of Planning to work together to create the necessary zoning changes.
After a series of neighborhood meetings the legislation was introduced by Councilmember Cleta Winslow, and after the due process of coming before the Zoning Review Board (photo above), the Zoning Committee, and ultimately the Atlanta City Council, the legislation was approved to become Atlanta’s NC-15 district.

The Westview Community Organization is hosting its annual Holiday Luncheon at Fire Station 17. This is a great event to socialize with your neighbors in a non-meeting setting while eating home cooked food.
The WCO will cook a turkey and neighbors are asked to contribute side items. Please note we traditionally leave the leftovers for the fire fighters, so consider bringing your dish in a disposable container.

Atlanta has been buzzing with excitement over the news that Google Fiber will be coming to the city. Comcast and AT&T-haters alike can rejoice that Google Fiber has been coming through the Westview neighborhood to work on adding this utility feature as an additional option. While Google has been hush about when exactly the service will start to be offered, neighbors can none the less be content knowing that the infrastructure is actively being installed.
