The Westview Community Organization and the Westview Commercial District Association, in collaboration with the City of Atlanta’s Office of Planning, are hosting a series of public meetings to rezone the Westview Village to the Neighborhood Commercial (NC) classification. The Westview Village is a small-scale historic commercial node surrounding the intersection of Ralph David Abernathy Blvd and Lucile Ave. The first public input meeting took place on October 26, 2015, at KIPP STRIVE Academy.

Historic Fire Station 17 at the corner of Ralph David Abernathy Blvd and Cascade Avenue will soon house a West End neighbor-run coffee house. Please see the information directly from them:
People of the Way of Jesus will offer a COFFEE HOUSE as a community service. We are renting the old Firehouse #17 at 1384 Ralph David Abernathy, and will offer coffee (bold, medium and DCaf), tea, some wrapped pastries and WiFi on a DONATION basis.
At the present time, we will be open to the public on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 6pm to 9pm, so you can stop in for that quick cup on your way home, on Saturdays from 9am to 1pm for that relaxing weekend wakeup carefully and slowly cup and on Sundays from 9am to Noon for that “easy like Sunday morning” cup with your paper.
Our People of the Way Worship will still be held at 3pm on Sundays there, with our Agape Meal.
We also plan to offer FIRST FRIDAYS from 7 to 9pm, with Movie Nights, Spoken Word nights, live local musician nights and other activities.
We will not serve food, but you can pick some up and bring it in to enjoy (We recommend D’s Café down the street, Q Time, Soul Vegetarian, Bakari Pizza and other locally owned restaurants). We will not offer “to go” cups, but will be glad to fill your travel mug for you. It is all on a donation basis, and your donations will provide the rent, utilities, insurance, HVAC costs, WiFi and supplies to keep this going. We will not make profit on this, but will invest all donations into it, and expand it as those donations dictate ability to do so. It will be a community effort.
We will have our GRAND OPENING on Saturday, October 24th from 9am to 3pm, with a dedication ceremony at 11am. Rev. Jacqui and Pastor Jamie open our hearts and this coffee house to you!
If you have comfy chairs, area rugs, bookshelves or children’s chairs and tables, or children’s books you would like to donate toward this community service, or anyone who has a PowerPoint projector on which to show movies, that we can BORROW periodically… please contact Jamie at 404-353-0387.

While residents are still mourning the loss of the Big Apple Inn at the corner of Ralph David Abernathy Blvd and East Ontario Ave there is now reason to rejoice. Signs recently popped up in the windows of the former Big Apple Inn spot advertising the soon-to-be opening of a new eatery – Night Train’s Wings and Things.

Join us for the Intown SW Atlanta Cash Mob event series season wrap at Metro Lanes Bowling in Sylvan Hills on Friday, September 4th between 7:00pm and 11:00pm! Special community admission of $8 covers all activities (bowling, bowling shoes, skating, etc.).
What are Cash Mobs?
“Cash Mobs” are events in which we call on all neighbors to patronize a specific business on specific days and times. This shows the business owner the potential of increased business if they agree to adhere to some basic standards.
We all love our neighborhoods but how often do we find ourselves feeling like there are far too few high-quality restaurants and grocery stores nearby? In an effort to support local businesses and attract new food and restaurant businesses, neighborhood leaders of Adair Park, Capitol View, Capitol View Manor, Oakland City, Pittsburgh, Sylvan Hills, West End, and Westview are working together to encourage economic development in the area. As part of the Cash Mobs we are asking local food businesses to commit to:
1) Creating a respectful & welcoming environment for all patrons;
2) Maintaining a clean establishment;
3) Providing a safe environment (including shopping, dining, parking areas, sidewalks, etc.);
4) Providing healthy food options; and
5) Providing fresh food options.
If the establishments agree to these standards, we will ask our neighbors to go out of their way to support them.
Publicity
While patronizing the business neighbors are encouraged to:
1) Use hash tags #iswatlcashmob and #intownsouthwestatl
2) Take photos while at the location or with their delivery
3) Post receipts of how much they spent
